"I had been suffering since March of 2017 from Chronic Urticaria (HIVES). It began at my knees, then progressed to my elbows, hips and ankles. Curiously, at my joints. Soon, I had hives everywhere on my body. On my scalp, in my ears, on my eyelids, palms of my hands and the bottoms of my feet. The itching was constant. It was relentless. I was waking up at all hours of the night getting into a cold shower, trying to get relief.
Over the course of the next 9 months, I visited several top ranked Allergists, Dermatologists, Rheumatologists, Hematologists, Infectious Disease Specialists, Gynecologists, Family MD's and numerous E.R. teams.
Being a Type 2 Diabetic complicated the medications I was given. Prednisone was my only means of relief from the breakouts and itching. Taking this steroid forced me to have to take Insulin injections 3-4 times a day to control my blood sugar. I was a regular guest at the lab. After countless blood tests, all the techs knew my story and knew me by name.
Not one of those doctors could figure out what was causing my issue. I was forced to take Disability Leave from my job. I was not able to sit still, focus or concentrate. Depression set in, as before I knew it, I had gained a surplus of 40 pounds due to the Prednisone and Insulin.
The Internet became my enemy. Way, too much uneducated research had me self-diagnosing and created so much more anxiety. On December 1, 2017, I was on my way to yet another E.R. visit. I was going to beg them to admit me into the hospital until they could figure out what was causing the hives. I felt like I was going to go out of my mind if I did not get some answers and relief.
Sitting in my car in the hospital parking lot, I did one last Google search "Hives/Treatment". Up popped ACUPUNCTURE. The one thing I had not tried.
I found Dr. Li and Dr. Wu. I left the hospital and went directly to the Kendall office without even calling. It was a Friday morning and the doctors had not yet arrived. I was in tears and briefly told my story. The receptionist gave me a business card. I called the number and Dr. Wu answered. He told me to stay there at the office and called his wife Dr. Li. She was there in less than 20 minutes to see me. Dr. Li was very empathetic and seemed to know exactly what was happening inside my body. She was patient and kind as she intently listened to my story.
After her treatment with Acupuncture and Chinese herbs, I can happily say that I have been hive-free for over a month now.
